88-95 days. This eye catching fruit with its delicious, sweet red flesh has been known to occassionaly grow over 40 lbs! It's beautiful elongated dark green rind develops dozens of small bright yellow spots and usually a single large spot which resembles a starry night sky. It's leaves are also speckled with these beautiful yellow spots which always causes positive attention in our gardens. It was originally introduced in 1926 by Peter Henderson & Co as the "Sun, Moon and Stars" watermelon. However for a better part of the century it appeared that this majestic melon was lost. It was until recently did Kent Whealy rediscover this legendary watermelon on Merle Van Doren’s farm near Macon, Missouri.
