HEIRLOOM TURNIP SEEDS

(Brassica rapa subsp. rapa) Although place of domestication remains unclear, most scholars suspect B. Rapa was first domesticated in Northern Europe. It serves as an excellent cellar crop  that can be used for its roots, leaves, and flowers.  Turnips grow best in cooler climates otherwise they may become woody and harsh. In colder climates such as the northern US and Canada where growing season is only 3-4 months. In moderate climates where the season is 5-6 months, turnips are planted in late summer for a fall harvest. In warmer climates where the growing season is 7+ months, they are planted in the fall.
