Reliable, blocky, and sweet. Classic Red Bell is the archetype of a garden bell pepper—thick-walled, juicy, and zero heat (0 SHU)—bred for uniform blocky fruit and dependable sets. Picked green it’s crisp and grassy-sweet; allowed to finish red it develops full bell sweetness with a hint of berry and tomato.
Plants are compact yet vigorous, typically 18–24 inches tall with a tidy, branching habit that performs in beds or large containers. Dark foliage shelters clusters of 3–4-lobed bells about 3–4 inches across, with smooth shoulders and heavy walls that hold their shape when stuffed. Fruit ripen from glossy green to deep red at full maturity; coloring is even on well-lit plants.
In the kitchen, this is your do-everything bell: fresh for salads and snack trays, stuffed with grains or cheese, roasted or grilled for sandwiches and pizzas, and diced for freezing without turning watery. The thick walls blister and peel cleanly for roasted-pepper strips or jars of marinated peppers; red stage gives the sweetest flavor and most vitamin C.
