Description

The giant of Southern watermelon fields. ‘Black Diamond’ produces massive, oblong fruits with dark green, almost black rinds and deep crimson flesh that’s sweet, juicy, and rich in old-fashioned flavor. Each melon can reach 35–50 pounds or more under good conditions.

Vines are vigorous and sprawling, with strong disease tolerance and excellent yields. The thick rind makes it a superb shipper and long keeper.

An heirloom favorite introduced in the 1950s, ‘Black Diamond’ embodies the classic watermelon experience—bold, heavy, and sweet as summer itself.

Choosing the Right Location:

Light Requirements: Watermelon - Black Diamond thrives in full sun. Select a location that receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Soil Requirements: Prefers well-drained, fertile soil with a pH of 6.0-6.8. Although adaptable to various soil types, it grows best in sandy loam soil enriched with organic matter.
Planting Seeds:

Watering:

Preferred Temperature: Watermelon - Black Diamond grows best in warm temperatures ranging from 70-90°F (21-32°C). It requires a long growing season with plenty of heat.
