Potential Delays Due to Weather 1/21/2025 - Alliance of Native Seedkeepers
Hey Winter Gardeners!
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for much of eastern North Carolina from 5 PM this afternoon until 7 AM Wednesday. This storm is expected to bring snowfall, with accumulations ranging from 2 to 8 inches, depending on the area.
❄️ Expected Impacts:
Roads, bridges, and overpasses will likely become slick and hazardous, making travel difficult. Shipping and order fulfillment delays are expected due to road conditions and carrier disruptions, which have already been announced. Power and internet outages are also possible, potentially affecting our ability to communicate and process orders in a timely manner.
For those unfamiliar with our region, snowfall is rare in eastern NC. Our infrastructure isn’t typically built to handle such conditions, as it’s often considered more practical and cost-effective to shut down for a couple of days every few years rather than invest heavily in winter-specific infrastructure.
This reality extends to our own facilities... Our current seed building is set back on a long gravel road and wasn’t designed with extreme cold in mind. While we’re excited about our new store building, which will be much better suited for year-round conditions, it’s not quite ready for us to move into yet.
We ask for your patience as we navigate potential delays in shipping and processing your orders. Your support means the world to us, and we’ll continue to provide updates as conditions evolve.
If you have any urgent concerns, feel free to reach out. Stay safe, stay warm, and take all necessary precautions if you must travel.
Thanks!
