The classic American beet. ‘Detroit Dark Red’ is the standard of quality for home and market gardens, producing globe-shaped roots with deep, uniform crimson flesh and a smooth texture. Its flavor is rich and balanced—sweet when roasted, earthy and full when boiled or pickled.
The greens are equally valuable: tender, flavorful, and excellent cooked or eaten raw. Roots average 2½–3 inches across and store exceptionally well after harvest.
