The pointed heirloom that made early cabbage famous. ‘Early Jersey Wakefield’ forms compact, conical heads about 2–3 pounds each, with crisp, tender leaves and a sweet, mild flavor. Its small size makes it ideal for fresh use, coleslaw, and early summer harvests.
Plants mature in just 60–70 days, holding well in the garden without splitting. The tight, upright growth habit saves space and resists early-season pests and cold.
Developed in New Jersey and introduced in the 1840s, this variety was once the mainstay of spring markets across the East Coast. A fast, flavorful, and enduring classic that remains a gardener’s favorite for early harvest.
