California Red Mikado poppy brings brick-red, cup-shaped flowers above finely divided foliage. This selection of Eschscholzia californica is suited to sunny beds, containers and informal flower plantings. Plants typically reach about 10–12 inches tall, with first flowering around 60–75 days under suitable conditions.
Direct sow where the plants will grow because California poppies dislike root disturbance. Lightly cover the tiny seed, approximately 1/16 inch deep, and keep the seedbed moist while it establishes. Allow about 12 inches between plants and provide excellent drainage. Expect germination in roughly 7–14 days in suitable conditions. Established plants tolerate dry conditions; avoid prolonged wet soil.
Grown as an annual in cooler climates, California poppy can persist in mild climates and may reseed. Remove developing seed capsules if self-sowing is unwanted. This is an ornamental flower selection.
Minimum seed count: 1,000.
